About
The Duffields
Duffield Pottery is owned and operated by Dwayne and Jo Ann Duffield. Their home and studio are nestled in the beautiful mountains of Palestine, West Virginia. They have operated Duffield Pottery for 36 years, where their goal has been to create functional and decorative handmade stoneware pottery.
Dwayne and Jo Ann met while attending Glenville State College and pursuing degrees in education. It was here that Dwayne was trained to make wheel-thrown pottery by Professor Charles Scott. After graduating from GSC and getting married, Dwayne and Jo Ann began working together in their own studio to create handmade stoneware pottery. Jo Ann first began by helping Dwayne prepare the clay, decorate and handle many of his pieces, glaze and wax much of the pottery, while operating the business aspect of Duffield Pottery. Today, Dwayne continues to create the forms on the potter’s wheel while Jo Ann decorates, glazes, applies handles and creates her own line of Duffield Pottery in slab work.
The Duffields have been married for 36 years and have been blessed with three wonderful children, a daughter-in-law and son-in-law and two beautiful grandbabies. Duffield pottery has been a large part of the Duffield family as each of their children were also trained to work in clay. Their son, Dylan and their Daughter-in-law, Elizabeth now operate Second Generation Pottery in Weaverville, NC.
